MANTECA — A season meant to mark a step forward has become a lesson in unmet expectations. The Manteca High boys tennis team entered the year hoping to build momentum and develop a stronger, more competitive roster, but challenges quickly began to surface.
The Buffaloes have had a rough season. A lack of athletes to compete has forced the team to forfeit every match. A season without any victory for the Buffaloes has evoked feelings of personal improvement amongst the players.
“I’m very disappointed with our team record,” said freshman varsity player Prince Rivera Garcia. “There also weren’t enough people who were there on the team.”
Manteca High’s record was 0-10, making it a complete disaster of a season. At least on the surface. While the scoreboard told a story of struggle, the players emphasized personal growth and learning from each match.
“I plan on working to improve over the summer for tennis,” sophomore Travis Sicat, “because I feel that we need to focus on improving to avoid another season like this.”
