MANTECA – Thud! Thud! Thud!
The sound of Jeovani Suarez’s footsteps echo throughout the field as he chases the football. He takes aim at the middle section of the ball carrier, “because it hurts the most,” he says.
Saurez wraps up the player with two arms and rolls him like an alligator would its prey. The death roll has served this Manteca sophomore well. Suarez is a promising talent with the Manteca High football program. He played on the junior varsity team as a freshman and has been told he may join the varsity team for the playoffs in October.
“Jeo is growing a lot this year. He’s looking to try to find himself as a leader on the team… It’s been good seeing his development from last season to this season. He’s definitely grown a lot.” said JV assistant coach Andrew Cokley. “He’s trying to take more of that raw leadership position.”

This year right now Suarez currently has 5 and 2 sacks and has driven a defender to the ground leave them flat on their back, better known as a “pancake” 5 times.
Suarez fell in love with football when he was only in 4th grade. His skills developed rapidly, and he was moved up to the JV team as a freshman.
Jeovani’s love of football has made him achieve his goals of going into JV as a freshman and is hoping to go to Varsity as a sophomore coaches have high hopes for him, as he is going into a leadership position this year.
“If something goes wrong, just keep going only you can stop yourself,” said Suarez.

TT: Why did you start playing football?
JS: My sister went to Manteca high, when I was in 4th grade. She became a freshman, and watching the MHS varsity football team play at the football games while I was sitting with my sister, I took inspiration from them and asked my mom if I could start playing football.
TT: Why did the coaches put you in JV your freshman year?
JS: They had too many people let down and someone had to step up and show up. I did my job.
TT: How did you get at the level you’re at right now?
JS: Consistency. Hard work. Dedication. Everything has to do with consistency. Just stay on everything and keep working and constantly go at it to achieve your goal.
TT: What is your motivation for football?
JS: Definitely my family and my team. They just motivate me to keep on trying and getting better.
TT: Do you plan on going pro?
JS: Yes, I do plan on going to college and getting a scholarship. Pro is something that I definitely want to achieve.
