Gigi Torres is a flag football player at Manteca High School. She also participates in the school’s Leadership class. She was selected to be a part of the Super Bowl Experience by a coach with the San Francisco 49ers, who contacted her through social media.
The offer: To play in a flag football game, played beneath black lights, against players throughout Northern California.
Torres didn’t need much convincing.
“The environment was filled with excitement, so many faces I didn't know but became so close with during the whole process,” said Torres, who capped the night with the game-winning touchdown. “Something unforgettable.”
Torres scored a touchdown for Team Pink and got to celebrate in the end zone. The experience helped her improve in areas like teamwork, confidence, leadership, and being true to herself without fear.
Torres played as a receiver in the slot position. During the third quarter, she ran a slant route, and the ball was passed to her. With incredible agility, she juked past three defenders and sprinted all the way to the end zone for a touchdown. This pivotal play not only gave her team the lead but ultimately helped secure the win.
“The highlight of my experience being there was scoring a touchdown for team pink and celebrating with all the NFL players like Puka Nacua, Brock Purdy, and Kyle Hamiliton.” Said Torres.
Her performance wasn’t just about the touchdown; it demonstrated her growth in key areas like teamwork, confidence, and leadership. She embraced being true to herself, playing without fear, and leading her team by example.
Torres' standout play and leadership caught the attention of scouts, and now she’s playing in multiple 7-on-7 tournaments, two in Los Angeles and one at TurfLite. Her performance has led to offers, including one from Narco.
Her journey has inspired a generation of young athletes, opening doors and inspiring others to chase their goals fearlessly.
She described the event as an unforgettable and once-in-a-lifetime. During the experience, she had the chance to meet notable players like Brock Purdy, Puka Nacua, Eli Manning, and Kyle Hamilton.
