On Feb. 23-24, Manteca High School welcomed a new generation of Buffaloes as eighth graders from across the district stepped onto campus for a special visit.
The incoming Class of 2030 filled the walkways with curiosity and excitement, getting their first real glimpse of what high school life will soon look like. Students from Sequoia Elementary, Shasta Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, and Woodward Elementary, among others, arrived in groups, guided by staff and student leaders eager to show off their campus.
For many of the students visiting, it was their first time walking through the halls of Manteca High, and the experience quickly turned nerves into anticipation.
Throughout the two-day event, eighth graders were introduced to the wide range of sports programs offered on campus. From football and basketball to volleyball, wrestling, softball, and track and field, coaches and athletes shared what it meant to represent the Buffaloes. Visitors toured the gymnasium, athletic fields and training areas, learning about teamwork, school spirit, and the dedication it takes to compete at the high school level.
In addition to athletics, students explored the many clubs and extracurricular activities available. Leadership students spoke about organizing rallies and campus events, while representatives from academic clubs, cultural organizations, and special interest groups explained how freshmen can get involved right away. Whether students are interested in art, music, student government, or community service, they were shown that there is a place for everyone at Manteca High.
Campus tours gave the future freshmen a walkthrough of classrooms, the library, counseling offices, and communal areas. Staff members provided a rundown of graduation requirements, class schedules, electives, and expectations for academic success. Counselors emphasized the importance of staying organized, getting involved early, and asking for help when needed.
By the end of each visit, the Class of 2030 left with more than just pamphlets and schedules they left with a clearer vision of their future. The eighth-grade visit served as both an introduction and an invitation: a chance to see that high school is not just about classes, but about growth, opportunity, and discovering who they want to become.
As the buses pulled away on February 23 and 24, excitement lingered in the air. In just a few short months, those same students will return not as visitors, but as the newest members of Manteca High School’s Class of 2030.
